The beauty of the Arts is one thing. The profitability is another. That is why scholars and alumni of the MUSON School of music gathered to learn the Business of The Arts.  The study of Arts is gaining grounds and becoming more accepted, it is important also to ensure that there is a market for this and that graduates of this discipline are trained on getting value for their work.

 The Business of the Arts Series is an initiative of MTN Foundation where alumni of MTN-Muson Scholars are armed with information, entrepreneurial knowledge and market strategy to be well-positioned for the industry. This is achieved by organizing a series of workshops where industry experts are invited to train scholars on a number of subject matters critical to their craft.

The workshop focused on Music Management, Experiential Events Management, and Music as a Business. In her welcome address, the Director of Music, Princess Banke Ademola urged the scholars to make the best of the occasion. Mr. Abasi-Ekong, Senior Manager, Programme Implementation, MTN Foundation, told the scholars the challenges they had to contend with while informing them that MTN is prepared to support them.

During the training, Mr. Oye Akindeinde, CEO of Music Time, Simfy Africa, spoke on how music will always be a profitable venture and the need to take advantage of the opportunities available therein by introducing them to platforms that provide marketing opportunities for up and coming musical sensations

Multi-talented keyboardist and CEO of the music label, Vivace Records, Tee Y Mix brought a new twist to the workshop when he spoke about Music Management. He also urged the students to leverage on their personal strengths and collaborate with people who have other skills to complement theirs.

The last session tagged Experiential Events Management was facilitated by Tade Adekunle, Past National President of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) and CEO of KesKese Limited who emphasized on the importance of originality and the need to carve a niche for oneself in the entertainment industry. He added that it was important to create an experience in the minds of the audience in order to be remembered and stay relevant.

Giving the closing remarks Pamela Emodi, Manager, Education Portfolio MTN Foundation encouraged the scholars to stay true to their craft and to never undermine what they have, only then would they create value and become forces to reckon with in their fields. She ended by promising more amazing content next year.
